Rother District Council is inviting community organisations, schools and other groups to apply for funding before January 31, 2016.

Cllr Tony Ganly, chairman of the grants panel, said: “We know there will be many groups and organisations across Rother who will be interested in marking the anniversary of the Battle of Hastings.

“Those groups have the opportunity to apply for up to £500 and mark this historic anniversary which falls on Friday, October 14, 2016.

“Applications will be judged on their individual merits and there is an expectation that events will take place around October 2016.”

Grants will be offered to community groups, parish and town councils, schools, and groups set up to organise 1066 anniversary events within the district.

All projects must demonstrate a link to the celebration of the 950th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings and actively benefit Rother residents.
