GREAT RESULTS FROM SCHOOLS

East Sussex primary pupils have been given one of the best marks for progress between Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

The results make the County's schools amongst the top four shire counties in England for the progress pupils make between 7 and 11 years old, and ranked 31st out of 150 local authorities in the country.

That's according to the Government's primary school performance tables published last week which shows a value-added score, the score given for pupils' progress between Key Stage 1 and Key stage 2, well above the national average.

Councillor Rupert Simmons, Lead Member for Learning and School Effectiveness, said: "This is tremendous news for pupils and parents and it is encouraging to see such an improvement in pupils' performance. These ratings clearly demonstrate how hard teachers, governors and staff at East Sussex County Council's School Improvement Service work to raise classroom standards and educational achievement, and how much effort pupils put into their work. Parents should be encouraged to see how well the county's schools are performing overall and confident that they are some of the best in the country."

Primary school performance tables show Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 2 results valued-added measure and Key Stage 2 results. A school's value added (VA) measures are considered to give a greater indication of a school's overall effectiveness than the overall results or year on year comparison as it provides a measure of pupil progress and improvement.
