Greens publish easy-read versions of manifesto

Brighton and Hove Greens have created an easy-read version of their manifesto for people with learning disabilities and have also translated it into Arabic. The party said that Arabic was the most-widely-spoken language in Brighton and Hove after English.

Matthew Moors, the local party's equalities and diversity officer, who is standing for the council in Goldsmid ward, said: 'Brighton and Hove Green Party are strongly committed to making the local democratic process as inclusive as possible for potentially marginalised groups in our community.'

Mr Moors has a personal motivation for making politics easy to understand. The elections next week offer his 22-year-old daughter Ushka, who has Down's syndrome, her first chance to vote.

The Greens worked with Mencap to produce 10 election pledges from their manifesto in an easy-read format. The party said: 'There are around 6,000 people in the city with learning disabilities so the easy-read manifesto is an important document for them to make the right decision for them in the local election.

'It's also important to note that there are many more voters who have reading difficulties so the document could be beneficial for a significant amount of people in the days before the local election.'
