Greg backs campaign

A CAMPAIGN by the Associate Parliamentary Sustainable Waste Group has been backed by town MP Gregory Barker.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of waste crime and its affect on the environment. The MP has signed a Parliamentary pledge on the issue.

The moves comes after research was published showing that more than a million fly-tipping incidents take place each year.

Mr Barker said : "Fly-tipping is anti-social and spoils neighbourhoods, costing local councils, such as Rother and Wealden District Council, over 50 million a year to clean up.

"These local authorities are working hard with residents and businesses to minimise the amount of waste produced and are helping them to dispose of waste responsibly. Waste crime is a risk to the environment and to our human health and it is very encouraging to see the Associate Parliamentary Sustainable Waste Group taking up such an important issue."
