The path, which is still unfinished, was built following a campaign after local man Graham Matthews was hit and killed by a car back in 2004.

Derek Bayntun, from the group, said: “brambles were overgrowing the path by up to a metre in places.

“We very much hope the Council workforce will do it next year.”

Rye councillor Granville Bantick said: “It seems unless the community does something nothing much gets done.

“The Harbour Road cycle path looks a great deal better for the efforts of Rye Wheelers, an initiative of Jim Hollands who has been campaigning for years to improve the cycle path.

The East Sussex County Council should take note of this.”
