Groups to unite for Bognor Regis regeneration

A bid to unite various bodies in Bognor Regis is being made ready for the town's regeneration.

The prospect of a Bognor Regis Stakeholders' Partnership Group has been launched by the town's civic society.

The idea of the new group is to bring together the likes of the town council, chamber of commerce and the civic society to find common ground between them.

Civic society deputy chairman Hugh Coster said: "We need to ensure we speak with a common voice and have a liaison point to stop us being subject to divide-and-rule tactics.

"We need to ensure we are sticking together and speaking together for the sake of the town. We are Bognor people speaking for Bognor ideas."

Mr Coster said the new partnership was essential to fill the void caused by the town-centre regeneration proposals being put on hold.

Chosen developer St Modwen has until 2012 to decide whether to proceed with the 100m schemes for the Regis Centre and Hothamton sites.

The interruption in the redevelopment was a good time to carry out consultation to shape the final proposals, said Mr Coster.
