Gruesome ‘fete’ for church folk

A FUN fete was enjoyed by villagers in the parish of Chiddingly – organised by the local thriving church.

The Rector of Chiddingly, The Rev Philip Hodgins, opened the popular event raising £3,000 for church funds on July 14.

Volunteers were invited, as the fete happened on the same day as Bastille Day, to be photographed on a guillotine for a small fee.

The Chiddingly/Lachelle Link Twinning Association provided the gruesome spectacle.

Unpredictable weather meant grass areas could not be used so half of the other activities happened in the village hall.

There was an assortment of colourful games, amusements and side tables.

A grand raffle was held with 40 prizes, as well as a silent auction.

Cream teas and refreshments were served in the garden of The Old Vicarage by invitation of Jonathon Hancox.

Brillo the clown popped up to keep children amused throughout the afternoon.
