Guestling Bradshawpupils remember bycreating poppies

PUPILS at Guestling Bradshaw School took on a special learning challenge as a way of remembering fallen soldiers.

Each class were set a task to create a poppy for Remembrance using a mathematical method appropriate to their year group.

Younger children were asked to make a poppy bigger than their hand or a symmetrical poppy whilst others had to devise Poppy Day word problems or draw a poppy using co-ordinates in quadrants.

Kate Tugwell, from Guestling Bradshaw School, said: “ This maths work was part of the school’s ongoing efforts to raise standards in maths and link learning to everyday life.

“ As a church school, Guestling Bradshaw follows the worship theme of Peace during this term and Armistice day is an important part of this work.

“ Children and staff then observed the two minutes silence at 11 o’clock on Friday to think about those who have fought or fallen in conflicts around the world.”

Children from the school regularly take part in various community projects and have enjoyed a busy school year marking the London Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
