Guide dogs for the blind coffee morning

Little Common Community Centre was the scene of social activity during the coffee morning held by the Bexhill Hastings and Rother branch of Guide Dogs For the Blind Association.

A number of stalls were arranged around the hall in the centre of which visitors enjoyed the chance to relax over a cup of tea and a chat.

Branch chairman Nigel Lockwood commented: "This is a general fundraiser. We come here four times a year, so people get used to seeing us, and we do get a good lot of local support which we appreciate.

"We sell stationary, guide dog books, bric-a-brac and we always have a cake stall.

"We have had a good turnout this morning - all the tables were full earlier on.

"We also have a raffle - sometimes people donate a prize for the raffle or a cake for the cake stall, or bring a bag of books for the book stall."

The next important event for the branch is on Sunday May 10 when it will be holding the fifth biennial sponsored dog walk along the seafront from Galley Hill to South Cliff and back.

The sponsored walk is open to everyone and their favourite pooch, whether their own, borrowed from a friend or neighbour, or even a much-treasured soft toy.

"Anyone can join in," said Nigel.

"The idea is it is the dog who is getting the sponsorship...Last time I remember there was a child who wanted to help who actually brought along a Disney dog called Pluto."
