Guide is prepared to help brighten Bognor Regis seafront

Double prize-winner Jasmine Wawrzewski is aiming to brighten up Bognor Regis seafront for a third year.

Jasmine has collected her second winner's certificate in a row in the annual competition to design a flower bed.

She wants to top her latest success with a hat-trick of triumphs in the contest run by the Girlguiding movement and Bognor Regis Town Council.

Jasmine, ten, said: "I'll be entering again next year. It's exciting to win for two years. I like art and I like designing things. It was exciting last year to see the flower bed I designed along the seafront for the rest of the year. It was good to see the result of the work I put in."

Her eye-catching design featured gold and orange marigolds and cineraria (cirrus silver) around a display of pink pelargonium.

Jasmine, a member of 1st Pagham and Aldwick Guides, achieved last year's win when she was a Brownie with the same troop.

She joined the other winners and the runners-up of this year's

competition for a presentation ceremony in the town hall's council chamber.

Wet and windy weather caused the original plans for the girls to help to plant the designs in three flower beds along the seafront mounds on the corner of The Esplanade and Clarence Road to be put on hold.

An alternative day was arranged for them to assist the Town Force workers to put in the blooms.

The competition attracted 122 entries, one of the best since it began in 2004, from Rainbows, Brownies and Guides.

Deputy town mayor Sandra Daniells congratulated the winners and runners-up when she handed out the certificates. "Well done to everybody.

"You have all made a marvellous effort," she said.

The flower beds will form part of Bognor's entry into the South and South East in Bloom competition.
