Guides man tills to raise cash for children's charity

Guides from Yapton became shopkeepers to raise money to help change the world.

The 17 girls from 1st Yapton Guides took over the Save the Children shop in Littlehampton for two Saturdays.

Their time behind the till resulted in 268 being taken. This included 29 from the sale of cakes and other items they had made.

The ten to 14 year olds staffed the premises, priced the goods and rang up sales at the pay desk.

Anna Drynan, their leader, said the experience was a taste of retail therapy from the other side of the counter.

"The girls really threw themselves into their Changing the World project. Seeing their enthusiasm was just fantastic," she said.

"They all had an interesting time, with the till being the favourite job.

"Helping at the Save the Children shop has given them the perfect opportunity to shout out about something they care about and Girlguiding UK the perfect opportunity to show the difference our members can make to the world around them."

Changing the World is an ambitious UK-wide community action project, with 19 partner charities, in which all Girlguiding members can get involved.
