Gwen, 15, is making airwaves!

GWEN Elias, 15, of Bexhill High School, has made it to the finals of the Radio 2 Young Choristers of the Year 2002 competition.

Her recording of O Gloriosa Domina by Michael Head swept her straight through to a shortlist of 25, and then to the final four girls in the running.

"I am not really interested so much in the classical church singing, but that is what my voice is good at - it's what my voice does.

"I prefer musical theatre and being on stage."

Gwen is a member of St Peter's choir, but also enters festivals and will appear in the Hastleons production of Fiddler on the Roof.

The all-important final will be broadcast live on Radio 2 on October 20 at 8pm.

It will be judged by HRH The Duchess of Kent, James O'Donnell, organist and Master of the Choristers at Westminster Abbey and Soprana Catherine Bott.

The winner will take away a trophy and cash prize of 500 and 1000 for the choir.
