BOOT SALE: There is a Boot Sale alongside Hailsham Farmers Market tomorrow, Saturday, at the rear of the site from 9am to 12.30pm. Entry is a requested donation of 20p to local charity. Demelza Hospice Care for Children will also be there to raise funds. If you would like a pitch you can just turn up to set up between 7.30am and 8.30am and the cost is £5. No food vans please. GARDEN PARTY: Ersham House is holding its annual Garden Party and Barbecue tomorrow, Saturday. Doors open noon with live music on the patio followed by a barbecue at 12.30pm with hot dogs and hamburgers available and a whole host of stalls and games will begin from 1.30pm. These include Hook the Duck, buy a Pimms to sip and consider just how much cream you want on those lovely strawberries. The highlight of the afternoon is an appearance by the Hunters Moon Morris Dancers. Ersham House always offers a welcome to visitors and we are delighted to give the local community the chance to come into the home and enjoy our Garden Party with us. There will be a charge of 50p for entry but children go free. There will also be a charge for food and drink. All proceeds from the day will go to the Resident’s Activity Fund. We are committed to improving and diversifying the number and range of activities on offer at the home and your support of this event will help us to make this happen. So come along on the day, have a great time and if you want you could even pull out your best handkerchief, tie some bells to your socks and join in the Morris Dancing. YOUTH ZONE: Hailsham Parish Church Youth Zone meets tomorrow, Saturday, evening from 6pm to 8pm for a beach barbecue in Eastbourne near the Holywell cafe as well as playing some beach games. If you would like to go along contact Dan on 07881 526290. This group is for youngsters in years 6 to 9 but any Year 5 children who are interested in coming to Youth Zone from September are welcome to join us for the Barbecue. Come down to the cafe at the Holywell end of Eastbourne beach and they will be on the beach, possibly a couple of groynes across towards Beachy Head. BATTLE OF THE SOMME: Hailsham and District Branch Royal British Legion are holding a Parade and Service on the Sunday. This is one of many that is to be held throughout the United Kingdom in the period from July 1 to November 18 to mark the Battle of the Somme in which so many gave their lives and others severely injured. The parade is to commence at 10.30am adjacent to the Charles Hunt Centre Age UK in the car park going to the Hailsham War Memorial in the High Street. The Service is to be held at Hailsham War Memorial at 10.45am. All Organisations and members of the Public are cordially invited to attend. Hailsham Club will be open for tea or coffee prior to the commencement of the Parade Service, and following the service the bar will be open at normal Sunday hours for the sale of alcohol.

ROYAL BRITISH LEGION: The Royal British Legion has advised that there are wreaths that are different from the wreath that is laid at the Remembrance Service held in November each year. There is a Small Somme Wreath with carnations (approx 25 cm diameter) available at £12, Large Somme Wreath with carnations (approx 42.5 cm diameter) available at £18.50, Somme Remembrance Cross (approx 18cm x 10cm) available at £1.50 and two enamel badges, Somme Enamel Pin (Round) and a Somme Enamel Pin (with carnations) both available at £2 each. The prices shown are suggested donations, any additional donations would be gratefully received. QUESTIONNAIRE: Your Neighbourhood Planning questionnaire needs to be returned by Saturday July 16 to the Town Council Offices at The Inglenook, Market Square, Hailsham. If you have not already done so, please pick one up so that the Town Council can assess the needs and wants of Hailsham residents and try their best to take these into consideration to fulfil the future development of the town. Be a part of the process.

GRANTS: Council is pleased to accept applications for grant funding from local groups and organisations in Hailsham and offer small-scale support to help them with their projects, events and other valuable work in the community. Application forms and grant award criteria are available to download from the Town Council website (hailsham-tc.gov.uk) or by writing to the Town Clerk, Hailsham Town Council, Inglenook, Market Street, Hailsham, BN27 2AE. The deadline for grant aid applications (2017) will be the end of December.

CORINTHIAN CHURCH: This Sunday there is a Service at 11am followed by refreshments at 15a London Road. The Medium on this occasion is Terri Spain.

TOWN TEAM REP: With some major changes due in the Hailsham area over the next few years, now is a great time to join the Town Team as a representative of a local community group or association. Hailsham Forward, working with partner organisations such as East Sussex and Wealden District Councils as well as local businesses and residents, helps drive town revitalisation and initiatives from the ground up and you can be a part of this. When you become a member of the Hailsham Forward Executive, you can attend and participate in regular Town Team meetings, report on how local community groups and residents are getting on and make sure the aims of our projects are achieved. The closing date for applications is Friday July 22 and the successful applicant will be selected at the meeting of the Hailsham Forward Stakeholder Group to be held at Diplocks Hall on Friday July 29 (10am). HORTICULTURAL SHOW: Hailsham Horticultural Society has its Early Summer Show tomorrow, Saturday, at Summerheath Hall from 2pm to 5pm. Entry is 50p.

ORGAN CLUB: On Wednesday the guest organist is Penny Weedon, a lovely organist playing all styles of music to suit all tastes. If you would like to go along, all welcome, the concert is at the Charles Hunt Centre and starts at 7.30pm. Enquiries to Charles Clegg on 01323 762411.

HMI OPEN DAY: The Hailsham Memorial Institute is a members club based next door to the Citizens Advice Bureau on Western Road, Hailsham and they have an open day today, Friday, from 11am to 11.30pm. Hot food available until 6pm. The club offers cheaper prices, regular live entertainment and a range of activities including bingo, darts, snooker and lots more throughout the year all enjoyed in a warm family friendly atmosphere. Anyone who signs up for membership on the day will get a free pint of Fosters or a 250ml glass of wine. A full membership for a year is just £38 (over 60s £23). Children welcome.

CATS PROTECTION: The revised opening times are now Wednesday to Monday from 11am to 3pm. They are closed on a Tuesday. The Eastbourne Adoption Centre is based at 63 Marshfoot Lane and can be contacted on 10323 440101.

WALKIES FOR CHARITY: Ben is a Hailsham lad. He is 10 years old and is fundraising for Twinkling Starts, a small charity group who help families who have lost a child and need help to pay for a crematorium memorial or headstone. Each headstone is a minimum of £1000. Ben has already been out selling raffle tickets and with those sales and donations given so far, he has raised of £250. Recently a short film was made by John Stone about his fundraising, which you can watch on YouTube. He has also been on Hailsham FM to raise awareness and you can listen to his interview via their website at www.Hailshamfm.co.uk on mixcloud. Now Ben is holding a dog walk on July 10 at Abbots Wood from 11am to 1pm. Tickets are £5 each which includes cake for the owner and doggy bag for your pooch! Tickets can be bought at https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com:443/BenTwinklingStars. No dog? No problem. You can still come along and make a small donation.

HAILSHAM TOWN FC: Hailsham Town Football Club has Sponsorship Options starting from just £50, a great way to promote your business and help support your local football club. The club has been part of the town since 1885 and currently run three teams, a first team who play in the Southern Combination Premier Division as well as an Under 21 side and an Under 18 team. They have their own ground with good facilities, including clubhouse and bar and a new 100 seat stand, as well as a covered terrace with tea bar and hot food available on match days.
