ANNUAL TOWN MEEETING: The meeting started with the Hailsham Hero Award which was presented to Mike Weller of The Royal British Legion, Hailsham Branch. The meeting progressed to mainly questions about the new developments being built in and around the town. People were concerned at the numbers and questioned why Hailsham had to absorb so many. Favourite word of the evening was test which WDC used to explain their reasoning but still left people wondering with no clear answer. The WDC riled people even more by suggesting there were no traffic congestion problems in the town and had obviously not experienced the traffic standstills from all directions particularly every weekday morning. The pollution generated by such and the higher traffic movement in the town due to the new housing was also raised as a concern. Again, no cause for concern was acknowledged. Much emphasis was put on the need to put together the Hailsham Neighbourhood Plan which will guide the planning processes and once produced and ratified will play an important role in the planning process, with policies which must be duly considered and taken into account by law. Without this plan decisions will be made without further reference to the townsfolk. The Town Council were asked by a trader why positive information releases were being put in the press when the Street Market was quite obviously struggling and also that there was no publicity for any of the town’s markets including the Farmers Market. The lists of publicity opportunities were demonstrated. Such was the number of questions that the meeting was extended beyond its usual 9pm finish. WHO LET THE DADS OUT?: St Mary’s Church for fathers and their children up to 7 years old. Fun games, craft, refreshments and bacon butties between 9.30am and 11.30am.

BOWLS CLUB OPEN DAY: Go along to the bowls club tomorrow, Saturday, behind Freedom Leisure Centre and give it a try for free between 10am and 1pm. NATIONAL GARDENS SCHEME: Fineoaks, Hammer Lane, Cowbeech, has its open garden days tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday 1pm to 5.30pm for charity. Admission is £5, children free. Homemade teas.

SCALEXTRIC CLUB: Calling all dads and their 7 years upwards children to come along to Emmanuel church hall on Saturday May 7 and the first Saturday of every month for a great evening of slot car racing and dad time with their children. Starts 7pm to 9pm and it is just £1.

CHARITY GOLF DAY: Get booked in now for the Hailsham Lions annual Charity Golf Day at Wellshurst Golf Club, Hellingly. First tee off 10.30am. QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY PARTY: There is a Red, White and Blue Party to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday on Saturday June 11 from 7.30pm to 11.30pm to be held at Grovelands School. The event has been organised by Hailsham FM Radio and Environment Hailsham and is sure to be a fantastic night out for the people of Hailsham who all want to celebrate and mark this great occasion with an evening to remember. There will be music from across the decades from Hailsham FM, a cash bar until late, prize raffle, British Icons fancy dress competition, fish and chip supper all included in the price (food included on advanced tickets only). ST MARY’S: This Sunday 8am Holy Communion (BCP), 10.30am Morning Service with crèche and children’s groups. Please note there is no evening service. 1.45pm onwards Bible by the Beach simnards at The Congress Theatre, Eastbourne and 7pm Bible by the Beach Evening Celebration. On Monday there are Bible by the Beach final seminars and celebrations.

GIVE BLOOD: There are a limited number of walk-in slots available at the Civic Community Centre by Freedom Leisure on Friday May 13 and Friday May 27, so to be sure of your opportunity to give blood between 1.30pm and 4pm or between 5pm and 7.30pm on either date ring 0300 123 23 23 to book.

CORINTHIAN CHURCH: On Sunday the service starts at 11am and is followed by refreshments. The Medium on this occasion is Kasla. Monday Circle evenings are with teach Rev Jytte Bauer and start at 7.30pm and cost £3. Tuesday evening healing starts at 7pm to 9pm. All healing is given freely but donations are accepted. Healing will be given also if asked for after the Sunday service.

SPRING FAIR: Friends of Cats Adoption Centre have their very popular event on Sunday May 8 from noon to 3pm at the Adoption Centre at 63 Marshfoot Lane, Hailsham. Entry is 50pm or a tin of cat food. Lots of stalls and delicious refreshments.
