A POLICE INVESTIGATION into the rape of a teenage girl from Hailsham has been put on hold until new lines of enquiry are found.
The teenager was raped by men near Harrow Lane, St Leonards on Sea at 11pm on January 14 2011.
The girl was attacked, it was reported at the time, on playing fields near Harrow Lane on the northern edge of St Leonards. She went into Harrow Lane from The Ridge and two men approached her close to some playing fields.
One of them engaged her in conversation before punching her to the ground. Then he held her down while the other man raped her.
Both cowards ran off back towards The Ridge and the victim told her mother what happened when she got home.
The Sussex Express asked Sussex Police if the men responsible had been found or if the case was still being investigated.
Police confirmed new lines of inquiry are no longer being followed in relation to the rape.
Detective Chief Inspector Carwyn Hughes said: “All lines of inquiry have been thoroughly explored as part of an extensive investigation into the rape in St Leonards last January.
“I would like to once again thank the media and members of the public for their support throughout this investigation.
“We will continue to thoroughly investigate any new lines of inquiry should further information be received.”
