Hailsham Mayor Cllr Jo Bentley has released her Christmas message to the residents of Hailsham and wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Cllr Bentley said: “As the festive season approaches, I would like to take this opportunity to extend Christmas greetings and good wishes for the New Year to all the people of Hailsham.

“I am pleased to present my Christmas Message for 2014 and look back on my role as Mayor during the past year.

“It is now over two years since I received the great honour of becoming Mayor again. During this time I have been overwhelmed by the support received both from fellow town councillors and members of the public alike, and I must express my thanks for all the help that has been given to me.

“What particularly impresses me is the amount of voluntary work that takes place in Hailsham. Heartfelt thanks must be given to the committed volunteers who work tirelessly to improve the quality of life for others, in particular, those who care for people who need help and support.

“During the past year it has been a privilege to attend a number of functions and I’ve been greatly impressed by the diversity of the invitations and the hospitality and warm welcome I always receive.

“Having met many outstanding people from all walks of life, been to many interesting places and participated in many fascinating events, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all and look forward to the many more functions ahead in the next few months of my term of office.

“I also promise that I will continue in my endeavours to help local good causes whenever asked.

“So, as we celebrate the festive season, I hope you all have a chance to relax during the break. We should, however, give our thanks to those who will be working over the Christmas holiday, such as hospital doctors, district nurses, emergency services staff and all those who give their time to help the homeless and the elderly.

“On behalf of Hailsham town councillors and staff, my husband and Consort Bill and I wish you all a merry Christmas and hope that 2015 will be a peaceful, prosperous and healthy year for us all.”
