Hailsham: Volunteers needed for Ugandan cycle marathon

VOLUNTEERS are needed to cycle 4,000 miles from Hailsham to Uganda in a charity fund-raising event.

Hailsham-based Quicken Trust needs 72 teams to take part in the cycle ride without leaving the town!

From noon on August 23 until August 26, in Vicarage Field, teams will be on four exercise cycles, pedalling their way on a non-stop 24 hours-a-day ride to Uganda.

The charity, which is committed to helping Ugandan people by building a new school and medical centre, wants to raise 10,000 for the country.

Tens of thousands of people in Uganda die each week, and the country has been recognised as the worldwide epicentre of the AIDS epidemic.

Over a million children are orphans because their parents have died from either AIDS or the HIV virus.

The Quicken Trust wants to make a difference by giving the children a fresh hope for the future.

So if you can make a difference, the Quicken Trust wants your help. Cycling teams will complete a four-hour session, riding in rotation.

All age groups are welcome. Teams can even sign up for more than one session if they wish. The only requirement is that each team raises a minimum of 125 in sponsorship.

The Trust suggest putting teams together from work, school, neighbourhoods, pubs and voluntary groups.
