Hailsham - Woman hit in muggers attack

TWO THUGS are wanted by police after they mugged a woman – and one of them punched her in the face – as she walked along a busy road.

The duo targeted the 20-year-old woman on London Road in Hailsham at 6pm on Friday, November 4.

Police said the victim, from the local area, was walking along the road towards the roundabout with Anglesey Avenue.

The thugs approached the woman from behind and suddenly tried to grab the handbag from her.

But the gallant victim fought back and in the struggle one of the muggers punched the woman in her face.

She broke free from their grasp and ran off with her handbag in the direction she had been walking.

The victim suffered slight bruising on her cheek but she did not need any medical treatment.

Police have launched a hunt to find the attackers as soon as possible - and residents have been asked to help identify them.

PC Jessica McNab, of the Wealden Neighbourhood Response Team, said: “London Road is a very busy road, especially at that time of day and we are hoping that a resident or passing driver may have seen the incident.”

Both men are described as white. One of them was 5ft 10in, with brown hair. He wore a grey coloured zip up hoody at the time of the attack. The second man was about 5ft 5in tall.

PC McNab added: “If anyone saw the attack or has any other information please contact us by phoning 101 quoting serial 1410 of November 4, or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
