Hair grown for 40 years lost in accident

Linda Turvey, who is in her 50's, has not cut her hair since she was 15.

She was cutting thistles in a field at Hen Heaven sanctuary in Stonepit Lane, Henfield when the accident happened at around 4pm.

She said: "The day before I couldn't start the strimmer and on Wednesday I thought I would have another go and it started."

Linda said she put the strap over her head and shoulder and didn't give it another thought.

She said: "I was strimming for only about a minute when there was a colossal bang on the back of my head and my plait was pulled in through the back of the intake. When I came to0 I was lying in the thistles."
