“Many people will have wondered why there seem to be men walking the streets looking rather more hirsute than normal,” he explained.

“To these moustachioed fellows, this is not November but Movember!

“This is when clean-cut men start growing a moustache to raise awareness of prostate cancer.”

Mr Burns said the disease was the most common form of cancer in men in the UK, with more than 40,000 diagnosed each year.

He took part in Movember last year with a group of friends, raising £200. He and Keiran Price have been growing a moustache again this year for the campaign.
