Entry is free but a donation of a tin of Felix cat food or a cat toy would be greatly appreciated by the 150 cats currently in the care of the centre.

Staff at the centre are hoping the spookiest time of year may prove lucky for some of the many black or black-and-white cats in its care. Black and black-and-white cats are the least popular when it comes to rehoming and take 13 per cent longer to adopt than their more colourful counterparts.

Cats Protection’s National Cat Adoption Centre Manager, Danielle Draper, said: “Our Black Cat Day is always great fun for all the family and we look forward to seeing everyone’s fancy dress and pumpkin creations.

“As well as all the spooky fun and games, we’re hoping the day will help find some new owners for some of the lovelyblack cats in our care. Black cats often wait longer to find new homes compared to other cats, such as tabbies or gingers, yet they have just as much to offer.”
