Parish Council: It was mentioned at the Parish Council meeting last week that the Neighbourhood Planning Committee hopes to be in a position early in the New Year to hold an exhibition/work shop on the Plan and where it is at that stage. As I have said before, this is something that everyone in the parish, not just the village, should attend as all the work that is being done on this is for our benefit and if we don't support them now, we cannot complain when the time comes to submit the Plan to an examiner prior to it going out for a vote. It was also mentioned that scrutiny of neighbourhood plans by inspectors and examiners in general is getting harder as time goes on, so all the more reason to get behind the Committee now!

Don’t forget the Parish Council’s Planning Committee will be meeting in the Pavilion this evening, Thursday, from 7.30 pm to discuss any planning applications recently submitted to Mid Sussex District Council. A copy of the agenda will be posted on the notice board outside the Spar Shop and if you would like to have a look at any of the plans in respect of applications to discussed, I understand they should be available for inspection at the Hardware Shop, or you can have a look on MSDC website. There will also be an opportunity to raise any questions, queries or concerns during the course of the meeting.

Outing Club: I have mentioned previously the various places that the Handcross & District Outing Club go to, the last place being a mystery coach tour followed by a carvery lunch in Bognor which took place last month. If you would like to know more about this Club and the trips planned for next year, they are holding their Annual General Meeting on Saturday, 5 November, in the Parish Hall from 2 pm. They are always looking to welcome new members – there is no upper or lower age limit to membership – nor do you have to be a resident of the village (hence ‘& District’!). The next trip is to the Dome in Brighton on Sunday, 11 December for a Carol Concert; the cost of tickets is £30. If you would like to put your name down for this, or would like more information about the Club but can’t make it to the meeting on Saturday, Sheila Lyons is the person to speak to on 01293 402867.

Christmas Fair: I have asked recently if anyone is holding any fairs or the like in respect of Christmas and I have noticed one such event! On Friday, 18 November there is a Christmas Craft Night at the Hardware Shop. It starts at 6.30 pm with crafts for children with adults being catered for from 7pm providing an opportunity to meet up with friends, both old and new, for craft action, browsing new Christmas stock whilst enjoying mulled wine and mince pies! There will be 6 craft activities to take part in so hopefully you will be able to come away with a personal gift for that one person who is always the hardest to know what to get for Christmas! For further information, get in touch with Christina on 400212. If you can’t make it on the 18th, there is another Craft Night on next Wednesday, 9 November between 7.45 and 9.45 pm and a final one on Wednesday, 14 December at the same time; both at the Hardware Shop, probably in the meeting room above the shop, entrance round the back of the shop.

Knit and Natter: If you are interested in crafts generally, there is a Knit and Natter being held on Thursday, 10 November at the Hardware Shop from 2.30 pm. This is organised by Mary Bird, so if you have any questions on this, Mary is the person to speak to on 400747. You would be made very welcome if you don’t knit but want to go along for the natter! The suggested donation to cover the cost of refreshments, etc is £2.

hardware Shop: The next ‘event’ at the Hardware Shop is on Friday, 11 November at 8 pm when the Dudley House Folk Club will be meeting; you don’t have to be a singer of any note, you will be made to feel very welcome if all you do is go along and listen! All the events held at Dudley House/Hardware Shop are put on by volunteers who are keen to share their knowledge and enjoyment of the subject in question so please, if you are a loose end, why not go along and see what goes on, take a friend with you if you want, or go along and make new ones!
