The Parish Council: meets this evening, Thursday, in the Pavilion from 7.30 pm; copies of the agenda for this and the Planning Committee Meeting which follows can be found on the notice board outside the Spar Shop. As always, there will be an opportunity to raise any questions or queries relating to items on the agenda early on in proceedings at both meetings.

This is the time of year: when the various organisations in the village hold their Annual General Meetings. The Rosemary Club have held theirs and on Friday, 1 April Help At Hand are holding theirs. The meeting will be in the Parish Hall at 7.30 pm and will be followed by cheese and wine. If you are unaware of what Help At Hand is all about, it is a charity set up to help those in need in the parish. Originally, the aim was to help in any way, with gardening, getting to appointments and such like; it now seems to concentrate on providing transport to appointments outside the village, or in the village if necessary. There is no charge for this service but donations are appreciated to assist with their costs as drivers can claim for their mileage and general vehicle wear and tear, at a rate of 45p per mile. They are always on the lookout for volunteers, either as drivers or to man the phones, so if you would like more information, please do go along to the meeting. It is a much used and vital service for many as there is no longer a bus service through the village to the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath.

The next Annual General Meeting: that I am aware of is for the Parish Hall Committee which will be on Tuesday, 26 April from 7.30 pm in the Parish Hall. More information about this will be provided nearer the time but you might want to make a note of this date in the meantime as I am sure many will want to attend, if only to find out how much longer it will be available to us and what, if anything is happening about a replacement. If you are a member of a local community group and will be holding your Annual General Meeting, or any meeting, and would like me to mention it, please let me have the relevant information; it is helpful if you can let me have this information as soon as possible to ensure I can mention it in time.

A couple of other dates you may wish to make a note of: Saturday, 23 April the refuse freighter will be in St Mary’s Church car park in Slaugham between 10 and 11 am before moving on to Seaforth Hall in Warninglid where it will be from 11.10 am until 12 noon. I would remind you that if the freighter isn’t there, please do not leave your rubbish. The following items cannot be taken: electrical items, paint, engine oil and only small amounts of garden waste. The council are not legally allowed to send garden waste to landfill due to the methane gas that is produced when it rots down; garden waste should be composted wherever possible and if you are unable to take it to the tip yourself, Mid Sussex Council can provide garden waste bins which are collected on a fortnightly basis but there is a cost involved. Please contact the Council for more information on this. The freighter will be coming to Handcross and Pease Pottage on 5 June and I will mention it here nearer the time.
