Happy Birthday to Lollipop Lady

A surprise party was held for Pauline Forward, lollipop lady extraordinary, on her 70th birthday.

The occasion was also celebrated by pupils at St Mary Magdalene school where Pauline has been helping them cross the road for no less than 30 years.

That means she has guided children well over half a million times across the road and during those 30 years she has helped her own daughter and grand-daughter cross safely as well as three generations of many Bexhill families.

She only took on the job originally as a temporary measure to help out a friend but Pauline is still going strong.

At one time she was known as the Bonking Lollipop Lady by the children, as they would all wait to be lightly tapped on the head with the lollipop, but this doesn’t happen now because of health and safety regulations.

A special assembly was organised last Friday at St Mary Magdalene’s school in honour of her services and devotion to this important service. This was followed by a surprise party which was attended by 150 friends and family to show their appreciation.

Pauline is also on the committee of Bexhill horse show and Bexhill 100 Motoring Club.

In 2007 she was voted as a nominee by readers of Bexhill Observer for Bexhill Achievers award and was a runner-up.
