Happy youngsters reward Yapton playschool with top report

Children thoroughly enjoy their time at a Yapton playschool, an inspector has reported.

Rosemary Musgrove, of Ofsted, said the 31 youngsters who attended Happy Days Playschool displayed good levels of involvement in indoor and outdoor play activities.

"This is because resources are well organised in storage trolleys and encourage children to make decisions and become independent," she commented.

"A strength of the setting is the staff's interaction with the children. They really do listen and value each child's contribution.

"Their excellent use of appropriate language helps children to progress towards the early learning goals.

"All children participate in a range of worthwhile activities in all areas of learning. In particular, they demonstrate proficient skills in information and communication technology.

"Parents particularly value the care, guidance and community spirit that is a feature of the playschool."

Her verdict on the playschool based in the Scout Hut in Drove Lane led her to award it an overall rating of good in all aspects of childcare.

Manager Kim Edwards said she was pleased with Ms Musgrove's recently-published report which followed her two-day inspection last month.

She praised her staff for their enthusiasm and input into adapting to the many changes to early years provision which were introduced by the government last September. "It is good to know that we are keeping on target," she stated.

Ms Musgrove made two recommendations to improve the work of the playschool.

These were to further develop systems to monitor children's progress and achievements in order to plan the next steps in their learning and development and to develop a system for gathering information from parents regarding children's starting points.
