The past two years has seen several key developments in the town. In addition to the Hoverspeed fast ferry service there are now two freight and passenger services on the Newhaven/Dieppe route. And the West Quay has been transformed with prestigious new homes, a riverside walkway, and state of the art facilities for fishermen.

Mr Buhlman will speak on the future options for the port at the forum which has been organised by the Newhaven Community Development Association (NCDA).

Its chairman, Pam Perry, said: 'The future of the port is of great importance to Newhaven and its residents and we are looking forward to an interesting meeting. The forums are open to any local resident or group and entry is free.'

It is hoped the forum will be the first of a series which will give people the chance to have their say about the town. The NCDA plans to hold them every two months on topics of interest to townsfolk. Any suggestions on topics should be sent to Sally Foote at the Hillcrest Centre, Hillcrest Road, Newhaven, BN9 9EA.

The forum will be held at the Summerhayes Centre, Marshall Lane, Newhaven, on March 21 at 7.30pm.
