Harbour man dived into 2ft of water

AN unconscious 22-year-old man was rushed to hospital after diving into just 2ft of water.

Coastguards, a police helicopter and ambulance crews rushed to the closed Newhaven breakwater at around 10am yesterday (Sunday) after the man was spotted floating in the water by a fisherman on a nearby boat.

The man was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital by ambulance.

He was released later that day. He was not thought to be seriously injured.

It is belived the man's friends ran off after he jumped.

Police and coastguards warned about the dangers of jumping into water from a height, known as 'tombstoning', several weeks ago after youngsters were spotted on the harbour arm.
