Harbour plan's £5m boost

REGENERATION of Shoreham Harbour has been given a £5m boost thanks to a Government grant to help improve transport links around Shoreham.

Improved transport is essential for success of the regeneration scheme and will benefit communities in Shoreham, Southwick, Fishersgate and Portslade.

The money will contribute to making the A259 coast road more user friendly, serving business and residential areas, as well as ensuring there is a high quality bus service linking towns on the coast.

Better links between trains and buses will also be achieved as well as an improved access to Shoreham Harbour to help economic development.

Studies carried out by local authorities show that more road building is unlikely to provide any solutions to the problems currently being experienced by road users, but a comprehensive, affordable and reliable public transport system could.
