HARBOUR SCHEME FOR 6,000 HOMES

MASSIVE brownfield development at Shoreham Harbour could bring up to 6,000 homes '“ along with offices, shops and a marina '“ creating the equivalent of a new town on the Sussex coast.

Land stretching from Shoreham to Hove could accommodate 14,000 new inhabitants in plans drawn up by the South East England Development Agency (Seeda) and the Shoreham Port Authority.

The idea has developed from the Shoreham Maritime Project, which first originated nine years ago with the expectation of 6,400 jobs, 1,200 homes and 120,000 square metres of new commercial floorspace for the area. But that scheme, which was expected to take 30 years to complete, became problematic when the cost of road improvements added almost 200million to costs.

Now an entirely new project has been developed, but both Seeda and the port authority are refusing to reveal what is included in the plans, or where the homes are to be built. But they have confirmed that 4,000-6,000 high-quality, sustainable homes are being considered for the site during the next 15 years.
