Hastings author pens second novel

Sian, who has lived in Hastings for 44 years, says she was inspired to put pen to paper when her job as an Individual Needs Assistant in a local secondary school came to an end.

“I was one of the many, many people who always thought they had a book inside them,” she said.

“Finding myself out of work gave me the incentive I needed to sit down and start writing.

“I’d almost finished my first novel when I discovered local writers’ group Shorelink Writers, who gave me advice and encouraged me to publish what I’d written as an Amazon e-book.”

Turning Points, Sian’s first self-published book in 2013, follows Carys Masons’ life from her mother’s premature death in 1944, when Carys was just ten, through to her wedding in 1958.

Sian said she was subsequently inspired to give Carys a sequel.

“In Doorsteps & Dreams, I have picked up the story precisely where I left it: on Carys’ wedding day.

“She’s thrilled to be married at last, but her husband Jack is very old-fashioned and isn’t at all keen on the idea of his new wife having a job, even if it makes her happy.

“The two of them eventually move back to Carys’ beloved Wales, giving her a chance to try and build on her newly revived relationship with her dad.

“Carys longs to become a mother, but fate stands firmly between her and her dream. And then tragedy strikes.”

Amazon reviews for Sian’s first novel, Turning Points, describe it as ‘a story of great charm, insight and affectionate perception,’ and ‘a lovely book to while away a summer’s afternoon’.

Sian’s books can be purchased as e-books from Amazon and will soon be available on Smashwords at £1.99 each.
