This year's Hastings Beatles Day is being dedicated to record producer Sir George Martin, who died on Tuesday (March 8) aged 90.

Sir George, known as the fifth Beatle, enjoyed 17 number ones with fab four.

The organisers of Beatles Day, which is taking place at the White Rock Theatre on Sunday April 3, have paid tribute to the influential record producer.

Organiser Pete Prescott said: “I wanted to say in behalf of everyone in the Beatles Day committee and fans everywhere how sad we are to hear of the passing of Sir George Martin.

“He was such a huge part of the music that the Beatles recorded.

“But he always came across as the coolest and most gentle of men.

“Like many I never missed interviews of this amazing man. He was so interesting. The voice of reason.

“One of my most treasured possessions is a Beatles Day poster signed by Sir George.

“Mike Hatchard met him some years ago and although he rarely signed autographs he signed the poster so that it could be auctioned to raise money for Macmillan.

“Marcia Dart and the Macmillan team out bid everyone to buy it for me.

“He lived a long and enviable life. But the world seems sadder without him.

“We will dedicate Beatles day 17 to this wonderful man.”
