Hastings Bexhill Link Road now a major doubt

The future regeneration of Hastings has been dealt a body blow by the announcement yesterday that a decision on the controversial link road would not be made until the end of 2011.

The three mile stretch had been championed as a way of opening up new parts of both towns for regeneration and relieving traffic problems along the busy Bexhill Road.

However, the government has announced the people behind the scheme will have to re-submit their bid - alongside more than 20 other similar projects nationwide.

And the fear is locally that the link road is unlikely to be given the £100million funding needed out of an overall pot of just £600million.
