Cornwallis Surgery was placed in special measures after being rated as ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in September.

But the GP surgery at Station Plaza was told it must improve staff supervision and appraisals as well as getting and acting on patient feedback after an inspection on February 9, in a report published on Thursday (May 19).

Despite getting ‘requires improvement’ in all sections except ‘safe’ and ‘responsive’, chief inspector of general practice Steve Field was quite nice about the surgery.

“The practice had good facilities and was well equipped to treat patients and meet their needs,” his report said.

Patients told the CQC they were treated with ‘compassion, dignity and respect’ and were involved in the decisions about their treatment, according to the report. Plus staff had the skills and experience to deliver ‘effective care and treatment’. But some staff were unaware of their employment status and some information on the website was out-of-date.
