Hastings Philharmonic Choir

Our Christmas Carol Concert included something for everyone and was enjoyed by a record audience for the choir at St Mary in the Castle, also the venue for our next concert on April 11.

Carmina Burana is a truly exciting piece which gets the senses tingling from the first famous chorus O Fortuna.

This cantata of ‘profane songs’ was completed by Orff in 1936, but has a pronounced medieval flavour. Based upon poems, songs and texts dating from the 13th century, in Latin, German and French discovered in a Benedictine monastery, the themes cover changing fortune, the return of spring, and the pleasures and woes of drinking, gluttony, gambling and lust – so all of life really.

The choir, including several new members, looks forward to learning or revisiting this popular work. Rehearsals start on January 7 and new members are very welcome to join us in this amazing experience. If you have ever considered singing do not miss this one.

We meet at the Tabernacle in Cambridge Road, at 7pm on Wednesdays. For more information about joining call 01424 431442, visit the website at www.hastingsphilchoir.org.uk or just turn up and join in.
