There was a party atmosphere in the Old Town during the afternoon as crowds lined the streets ahead of the carnival procession, which included eye-catching costumes and floats and a variety of music and drumming groups.

Among those viewing the procession was Heinrich Bokeluhr, the Mayor of Hastings’ German Twin Town Shwerte.

Earlier in the week, the streets were packed with revellers for Wednesday’s ever-popular Pram Race. The award for best pram went to the Lord Nelson with its amazing fish-themed creation.

Carnival Spokesman Ion Castro said: “Once again Hastings Old Town hosted a magnificent Carnival on Saturday, hot on the heels of the Pram Race last Wednesday.

“Helped by the wonderful weather, the crowds were out in force and we must thank our hard working Hastings Old Town Carnival Court for all their appearances and participation during the week. The three 16-year-olds have been a superb example to our young people.

“We mustn’t forget Carnival Chairman Robert Morgan (pictured here with the Carnival Court), who is blessed with the task of co-ordinating the committee of unpaid volunteers without whom there would be no Carnival or Pram Race. Robert’s behind the scenes activity and guidance often goes unnoticed.
