Hastings van thefts prompt police warning

Police say thieves have struck at least 40 times since the start of October and officers are asking anybody who notices anything suspicious or who may have other information about any these incidents to email [email protected].

Inspector Anita Turner, of the Hastings Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Van owners are reminded to look after their property, ensuring their vehicles are adequately secured.

"This is particularly important if they contain tools or other valuable items."

"It is advisable to remove items of value when your vehicle is being left unattended. If you have been offered any power tools for sale in suspicious circumstances, please contact the police, as these are often stolen items and we need to gather information about the thieves involved so that we can stop these offences continuing."

Witnesses can also report online to on the Sussex Police website or call 101.

Alternatively they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 (www.crimestoppers-uk.org)
