Have a blast at Battle Bonfire celebrations

After a year of fundraising, Battel Bonfire Boyes are making the final preparations for what promises to be yet another great night.

As in previous years, the celebrations will begin at 10am with a children’s fancy dress parade.

Accompanied children who wish to enter should meet by the fire station at 9.45am, where they will be joined by the ‘Oldest Guy in the World’ and the Battle Rubbish Drummers, who will be ‘bashing the living daylights’ out of a mishmash of percussion instruments.

The procession will make its way down to the Abbey Green, where the fancy dress judging will take place.

The Make A Guy competition will also be judged on the Green, with cash prizes for the best Guy, which will take pride of place on the top of the bonfire.

At 6pm, the roads will close ready for the extended procession to start at 7.30pm.

This year’s procession will take in Caldbec Hill.

Motorists are asked not to park in Caldbec Hill, High Street, Upper Lake and Lower Lake after 6pm.

Any vehicles left on the procession route after this time will be removed and stored overnight at the vehicle owners expense.

After the bonfire societies and drumming groups have made their way around the town, the bonfire and firework display will bring proceedings to an end in a fiery finale at 9.30pm on the Abbey Green.

Matt Southam, from the Battel Bonfire Boyes, said: “BBB remind visitors that there is no dedicated public viewing area and the Abbey Green is likely to become very busy.

“Visitors should carry any medical supplies they may need and due to crowd numbers, the event is not deemed suitable for young children, pushchairs or those of a nervous disposition.”
