Have a fundraising charity chigwag for Horsham Age UK

Age UK Horsham District is encouraging people to take a break and have a chat next month to raise vital funds for the charity to help it combat loneliness.

The Big Chinwag is a national project, which simply involves people catching up with colleagues in the office, taking a break at school or at home to make a vital difference to older people’s lives by giving a donation.

Janice Leeming, chief executive officer at Age UK Horsham District, said: “We all like a good natter so getting behind our Big Chinwag is a great excuse to take a ‘chinwag break’ and chat to colleagues or friends and family.

“We’re asking people to make their Big Chinwag extra special by fundraising to help us tackle loneliness which is stark reality for too many older people. Every penny really does count - just £5 could pay for a visit by a volunteer to an isolated person.”

With over one million people aged 65 plus describing themselves as always or often feeling lonely, and over a third who consider the television as their main form of company, facing later life alone and feeling lonely is a stark reality for too many older people in the UK.

There are lots of fun ways to get involved in an event anywhere – whether it’s at school, at work or in your local community.

Money raised from The Big Chinwag will help Age UK Horsham District tackle loneliness through a range of services such as the Home Visiting Service who will arrange visits for those people who are feeling lonely and isolated.
