Designers at international retailer Crew Clothing have attempted to capture the town’s quaint and idyllic character in a tweed blazer as part of its spring collection.

The piece has been well received by shoppers and staff at the Horsham branch in the Carfax.

“I know Crew try to incorporate all the towns we have shops and it’s good to see a Horsham design.

“It is really popular. When people come in they always look at it.”

She added: “This is for anyone who’s bold enough can wear it.

“It’s definitely ‘out there’ and I think Horsham is ‘out there’ - it’s getting more on the map.”

Recently Crew tweeted in celebration after spotting Richard Hammond sporting the Horsham blazer on BBC Two’s Top Gear.

Georgina Clark, head of marketing at the retailer, said: “Crew Clothing Co pay tribute to one of their stores this season by introducing the Horsham Blazer.

“Crafted from 100 per cent wool and woven by Moon in their Yorkshire-based mill, this thoroughly British blazer is a tailored classic.

“Recently worn by Top Gear’s Richard Hammond, this piece will finish off any look with effortless style.”

The clothing line was spawned by Alastair Parker-Swift.

In the summer of 1993 he was running a thriving windsurfing school in Salcombe, Devon.

Running the school from a small shop, Alastair seized the opportunity to stock clothing, and began to source navy and white rugby shirts using a local supplier.

After only ten days of hugely successful trading, the young entrepreneur managed to secure a premises in Cowes in time for the start of Cowes week.

The move generated sales that exceeded all expectations and the Crew Clothing Co. brand was born.

Today the company employees more than 400 staff over 70 stores across the UK.
