Have you been paid with fake money in Eastbourne?

Police are appealing to anyone who has bought items in the Eastbourne area and may have been paid in fake money.

Officers are investigating a man contacting sellers advertising items for sale on Gumtree, Friday-Ad and Facebook selling sites, including Eastbourne Buy, Sell and Swap, then paying for them with counterfeit notes.

Investigator Bernadette Peters-Shorter said, “We know there have been at least four victims but there could be more people who have sold items and not realised to start with that they have been paid in fake money. Please get it touch.

“We have conducted warrants in Sorrel Drive, Pensford Drive and Horsa Close in Eastbourne and have seized a number of items. The investigation continues.”

Anyone who thinks they may have been a victim is asked to contact police on [email protected] quoting serial 1680 of 08/02.
