HAVE YOUR SAY

Lewes District Council would like to encourage people visiting, living and working in the district to have their say on the future of the South Downs.

A Draft Management Plan for the South Downs has been published and is open to public consultation until 31 October 2006. The process focuses on the key issues that will affect the future of the South Downs.

A questionnaire has been especially designed to gather people's views and can be found in a leaflet called "It's time to have your say".

The leaflet has been produced by the South Downs Joint Committee, who would like to hear from local communities on a range of subjects, including development pressure, climate change, cultural heritage, impact of traffic, recreation pressure, tourism and demand for natural resources.

"It's time to have your say" is available in the reception areas of Lewes District Council offices and online at www.southdowns.gov.uk

The link also provides access to information about the consultation, including the Draft Management Plan.

All responses will be collated and published in 2007 and will be used to develop the content of a final plan.

The final plan will provide a framework for a wide range of organisations to participate in the management of this outstanding and internationally important landscape over the next five years. It will be the single most important document for the South Downs protected area.
