The Post Office has launched a public consultation period and are inviting views on the proposals up to January 26 2015.

They have promised that a re-located service would be able to offer longer counter opening times and improved modern facilities.

Will Russell, Regional Network Manager said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in Battle and we are confident that this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“The modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

Commenting on the proposals, he said: “The new Battle Post Office would have four modern serving positions including two open plan, one screened and a Post Office serving point - a new concept for delivering Post Office services with selected Post Office products and services available alongside retail transactions during shop opening hours Monday to Saturday 7am – 9pm.

“This would offer customers an extra 38 hours of Post Office services every week including Saturday afternoon and significantly earlier opening and much later closing every day, making it far more convenient to visit.

The proposed location is approximately 415 metres from the current site at 9-10 High Street, and is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business, through longer opening hours and modern open plan environments.

The move would be with the current Postmaster’s agreement and if approved could happen by April.
