Have your say over Battle Greenway plan

BATTLE residents will have the chance to contribute their views on the proposed Battle Greenway project next week.

The Steering Group working on the proposed Battle Schools Greenway (BSG) is holding an open meeting about the project on Wednesday March 13 at Battle Memorial Hall, 7.15pm for a 7.30pm start.

Every household in Battle should have received a leaflet outlining the proposed scheme, which aims to create a traffic-free route suitable for all from Battle Abbey to Claverham Community College. Further copies of the leaflet are available at the Memorial Hall, the library and the Almonry.

The project is in its infancy at present, and the Steering Group is in the process of consulting with local people and businesses to hear their views about the proposed BSG.

More detail regarding the BSG will be available at the meeting and those attending will be able to offer comments and raise questions.

Jo Reeves, of the Steering Group, said: “The BSG offers the potential for improving the accessibility of the current footpaths behind the High Street (by removing all steps, for example) and for enhancing many local amenities along the way.

“It is envisaged that connections with the High Street and the Recreation Ground on North Trade Road will be enhanced as part of the project. And a Greenway would offer hundreds of children a safer route to school or pre-school.”

The project is supported in principle by a number of local and national organisations, including Battle & Langton CofE Primary School, Battle Pre-School Playgroup and Claverham Community College, all of which lie along the proposed route.

The Battle Schools Greenway Steering Group is keen to engage with as many members of the community as possible, and, as an alternative to attending the open meeting, local people are welcome to get in touch to express their views either via email at [email protected] or letter c/o Battle Town Council, The Almonry, High Street, Battle TN33 0EA.
