They also provide a guaranteed paid work placement for the sandwich year that all Harper Adams University students complete as part of their degree programmes.

He said: “As I am not from a family farm, I would like to thank the BPC and PD Hook for giving me the opportunity to get a foot on the ladder within agriculture, especially the poultry industry.

“My work placement will see me spend time in each area of the business, including breeders, broilers, hatchery and rearing, as well as gaining an insight into the bio-security of the industry.

“My long term ambition would to become a farm manager, however I would like to gain as much practical experience in the industry as possible before progressing.”

Away from his studies, Richard plays hockey for Harper Adams University and for St Francis Hockey Club when he is at home.
