Health chiefs back ESCC drugs and alcohol service

Drug and alcohol services in East Sussex have been given an official thumbs-up by health chiefs.

The Joint Healthcare Commission and National Treatment Agency review has recently awarded a good score for the way substance misuse services across the County meet the needs of diverse communities.

The latest Healthcare Commission review says that substance misuse services in East Sussex are good at providing residential rehabilitation for substance misusers.

The Commission report also says that drug and alcohol teams have created safe treatment environments and have provided experienced and competent practitioners.

It's good news for the multi-agency East Sussex Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT), which aims to address drug and alcohol issues at a local level.

Councillor Bob Tidy, Lead Cabinet Member for Community Services at the County Council said: "To get an official clean bill of health from the Commission for our drug and alcohol services is great news. It shows that services are working well and that people across the County who are faced with drug and alcohol issues are being given very good treatment, help and support by our Team."

East Sussex DAAT Joint Commissioning Manager, Jason Mahoney said: "The report is just reward for the dedication and year-round hard work carried out by the Team. Drug services for local people have been reviewed positively and we've got a clear picture about how we can keep improving."
