Health watchdogs take up Worthing cancer fight

Health watchdogs at County Hall are being urged to look into the proposed plan to move specialist cancer care from Worthing to Brighton.Following widespread concerns, Worthing County Local Committee (CLC) is to raise the issue with West Sussex County Council Health Scrutiny Committee.

The proposal to transfer Worthing Hospital's highly regarded gastrointestinal unit was a headline issue at the CLC's first meeting, which was held at the borough's library on Thursday night (December 1).

The CLC is one of 14 set up by the county council earlier this year as part of a 'doorstep democracy' move to make sure the voice of local people is clearly heard and taken into account by the decision makers.

Mr Livermore, who is Chairman of the CLC, told the meeting: "A lot of people are upset about this proposal. They do not want to see this unit - or any more NHS functions - moved out of West Sussex."
