Defibrillator given to Beddingham youth hostel

Life-saving equipment has been donated to the new youth hostel at Beddingham.

YHA South Downs now benefits from a defibrillator on the premises thanks to the charity SADS UK.

The defibrillator works to restore the heart rhythm if a person goes into cardiac arrest. The equipment donated to the youth hostel is easy to use, providing voice prompts to the rescuer.

Derek Middlehurst, Senior Community Responder Team Leader at South East Coast Ambulance Service, is providing training not only to staff at the hostel but also those at the South Downs National Park, so that everyone knows how to use it.

The life of a friend of his who suffered a cardiac arrest on the South Downs was saved in the summer with the use of a defibrillator.
