Healthcare cash delay being sought

BERKELEY Homes wants to delay paying to improve healthcare in North Bersted.

The housebuilder is seeking to hold off handing over a £300,000 contribution to better services and facilities by a further two years.

The company agreed to the payment as one of the conditions when it was given approval in 2006 to build hundreds of homes on the site six development.

The cash would be due when 105 dwellings which had been on sale were occupied. But it has submitted a planning application to Arun District Council which seeks to change that.

Olivia Collett, a planner with the firm, says in a statement the trigger for the payment should now be 262 homes.

The delay is justified, she says, because talks between Berkeley Homes and the council about the healthcare services needed to cope with the new residents were continuing.
