'˜Heartening' display of goodwill for quilt

At Steyning Grammar School’s Winter Fair last week the Heritage Quilt Project was on display for everyone to see and join in with.

Two new green themed panels have been added to the quilt designed around the Steyning Downland Scheme.

Seventy, year seven students have created a ‘night time scene’ as a creative response to their visit in July.

Mr Nick Wergan, head teacher at Steyning Grammar School, said: “The quilt is proving to be a great success in bringing our community together to celebrate the 400th anniversary of the school.

“The work itself is wonderfully creative and quite moving to see.”

The Monday ‘twilight quilt group’ is a regular group of volunteers.

Other year seven students are learning how to embroider self-portraits and feeder schools are encouraged to contribute.

Amanda Duke, project manager and performing arts teacher, said: “New faces are still offering their help and we enjoy welcoming new participants into the project.

“The goodwill shown by community members has been heartening and the feel good factor is 100 per cent.
