Hearty fundraising walk in Bognor Regis

People in Bognor Regis are being urged to show how big their hearts are on Valentine's Day and raise money for charity.

Following last year’s success the Hearty Walk will be returning to the seafront.

The strollers will be taking part in the 5km outing in aid of the British Heart Foundation and Birthing Link.

Organiser Suzi Buckley, 31, said: “We have a nice beach and a nice seafront and, hopefully, the weather will be nice.

“Hopefully we will be able to build on last year’s success and have a lot of things planned for the afternoon, including a number of stalls and other health promotion information points, and things that will really encourage people to look after their hearts.”

Miss Buckley, who has lived in the town since she was 11, said she hoped the event would continue to grow.

“My dad passed away because of a heart attack seven years ago, so the British Heart Foundation is a charity which is dear to me,” she said.

“I hope once we have the walk established in Bognor, we can maybe look to stretching it to other places, getting people all over Sussex walking the 5km at the same time.”

The walk will take place on February 13, starting from The Waverley pub at the southern end of Nyewood Lane at 2pm. Registration and check-in are from 1.15pm to 1.45pm.

The destination will be the Lobster Pot Cafe on Felpham seafront before the return to The Waverley for a warm drink and a raffle.

There is no fee, but each adult walker is asked to raise at least £30 and everyone over the age of four must register.

The only rule is you must wear something red and bring lots of fun, love, laughter, motivation and enthusiasm.
